The Trinity of Man

Wallace D. Wattles writes the following in the first chapter “The Right To Be Rich” of his book, The Science of Getting Rich.

There are three motives for which we live; we live for the body, we live for the mind, we live for the soul. No one of these is better or holier than the other; all are alike desirable, and no one of the three—body, mind, or soul—can live fully if either of the others is cut short of full life and expression. It is not right or noble to live only for the soul and deny mind or body; and it is wrong to live for the intellect and deny body or soul.

These three motives can be called the Trinity of Man. The three things that makes every individual whole, the body, mind and soul. As we can see from Wattles writings in The Science of Getting Rich, the focus on the Trinity of Man is fundamental for every individuals happiness,

Any individual that neglects one or more of the three, will not reach a state of true happiness, he will always be short and thus not become truly happy. He will not utilize his full potential for happiness.

A person that only takes care of its body and neglects the mind and soul, will become hallow. We all know the type of individual that adores his body, falls into the trap of physical fashion where nothing matters but the sculpting of the body according to the scripture of fashion. Such individual will never rid him self of the vanity if he does not nurture his mind and takes care of his soul.

Those who take no care of their body, but focus on the matters of the mind, will inevitable loose their body to the various diseases that are all around us. Their soul will also deteriorate if their mind is not used to nurture it and as the calmness of the mind is acquired through the soul, those focusing on the mind and not giving to the soul, will know little calmness.

The over emphasis on the soul will not prove to be a road to happiness, if the body and mind are neglected. A neglected body will deteriorate and a mind not nurtured will keep from the individual, the enjoyment of life.

None of the three are more important than the other. The magic lies in the balance of the three. The body, mind and soul. A well balanced person will truly find happiness in his life. A happy life will bring tranquility and ease of mind, good health and prosperity.

Focus on the Trinity of Man, focus on The Body, focus on The Mind and focus on The Soul and you will have found the key to a fulfilled life.
